How to Store Glue?

Glues are used as an important binding material in industrial production and many sectors. However, in order to maintain the performance and shelf life of the glue, it is necessary to pay attention to the correct storage conditions. Glues that are stored incorrectly may encounter problems such as consistency change, drying or loss of functionality over time. Therefore, it is important to have information about the ideal conditions in which the glue should be stored in order to both maintain quality and reduce costs in the long term.

The following factors should be considered for the correct storage of glues:

Temperature Control

Storing the glue below +5°C or above +40°C can damage the structure of the product. While very low temperatures cause the glue to freeze and change its viscosity, very high temperatures can cause its components to separate. Therefore, the ideal storage temperature should be between +5°C and +40°C.

Protection from Sunlight

Glue should not be exposed to direct sunlight. Sunlight can reduce the efficiency of the glue by damaging the chemical structure of the product. It is best to store it in a closed, shaded area.

Moisture and Air Contact

In order for the glue to remain durable for a long time, it must be kept away from moisture and must not come into contact with air. When the packagins are left open, the glue may dry out or its consistency may change due to contact with air. It is recommended that the packaging lid be tightly closed after each use.

Closed and Ventilated Storage Area

The glue must be stored in a closed environment, in a ventilated warehouse. When left in the open, environmental factors may negatively affect the quality of the product.

Correct Packaging Use

Storing the glue in its original packaging is an important factor that extends its shelf life. Glues that come in IBC tank, barrel or bucket packaging must be stored as recommended by the manufacturer. If the packaging is damaged, it must be transferred to a suitable container and closed in an airtight manner.

In summary, the following basic rules must be followed in order to extend the life of the glue and maintain its performance:

  • It must be stored between +5°C and +40°C.
  • It must not be exposed to direct sunlight.
  • It must be stored in a closed and dry storage.
  • The lids should be tightly closed to prevent contact with moisture and air.
  • It should be stored in its original packaging.

If these basic rules are followed, the unopened glue will continue to provide the highest performance by maintaining its usability for a minimum of 1 year after the production date.
