The Discovery and Use of PVA-Based Paper Glue

With the growth of the chemical industry in the middle of the 20th century, paper glue based on polyvinyl acetate (PVA) appeared. PVA was a great option for glues because of its sticky qualities. PVA was first created by German chemist Fritz Klatte in 1912 by polymerization, and it was used for a number of purposes before gaining popularity in the paper industry.

Discovery and Early Uses PVA-based glues were initially favored for their high adhesive strength, transparent drying, and low toxicity in paper products. Their easy application and fast drying times increased their popularity in paper bonding processes. By the 1950s and 1960s, PVA-based glues became widely used in bookbinding, paper bag manufacturing, and the packaging industry.

Current Usage Today, PVA-based paper glues continue to play a significant role in the paper industry. They are used in producing newspapers, magazines, and books, as well as in bonding packaging papers and in artistic paper projects. The water-based nature of PVA offers an eco-friendly option, enabling the production of recyclable and environmentally friendly products.
